The 2007 translucentFILM Awards
7.
THE LOOKOUT
Dir. Scott Frank

Probably the most questionable film on my list according to the IMDb and RT scores, but I loved it. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a solid actor, building himself a great résumé between THE LOOKOUT, BRICK, ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD, and 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN, he is on fire. He came in second for my best actor award this year. Oh, and the movie itself was great too.
6.
THE KING OF KONG:
A FISTFUL OF QUARTERS
Dir. Seth Gordon

The lone documentary on the Top Ten Best list, and best doc. I've seen since SUPER SIZE ME. While SiCKO was fascinating, THE KING OF KONG just kept pulling in me with its non-witten twists. Especially when Billy Mitchell pulls out his mystery tape, that moment is the biggest shock of the year, save for the ending of NO COUNTRY.
5.
HOT FUZZ
Dir. Edgar Wright

When SiNiEd made SHAUN OF THE DEAD, I didn't think it could get any better. Then HOT FUZZ came out. And everything changed. I can't decide whether SHAUN or FUZZ is better, but one thing I know is that HOT FUZZ is the only poster I have in my dorm room.
