The 2007 translucentFILM Awards
1.
JUNO
Dir. Jason Reitman

And the best film of the 2007 translucentFILM Awards goes to the indie with the heart of a blockbuster, JUNO. The most overt reason why this is number one is the ridiculous script by Diablo Cody. I've read numerous reviews claiming that 16-year-olds don't speak with off-the-wall references to Soupy Sales or Morgan Freeman, well they are wrong. I don't know why they push every person under the age of 20 into a catagory were they only know anything from the years the've been alive but it's irritating. Also, Michael Cera is in both the number one and two films this year, so thats got to count as something right?
Best Actress
ELLEN PAGE
Juno

This one is obvious, seeing as no other film on my Top Ten has a worthy lead actress... not to mention the fact that Ellen Page is probably the cutest thing since I saw a picture of a puppy and kitty sleeping next to each other.
Best Actor
JAVIER BARDEM
No Country For Old Men

Also winning for person you would least like to meet in any alley, or supermarket, or church, or wherever. Bardem plays one truly disturbing man, in a film that some may say rewards his actions.
Best Film(s) No One Watched
THE KING OF KONG and SUNSHINE

Even though I put it at number six on my list, not many people went to see THE KING OF KONG. Which is a shame as it is one of the most enjoyable documentaries I have seen in a while.
On the other side is SUNSHINE, a film which did so awful in US cinemas that Danny Boyle must be thinking to himself, what do audiences want to see? The greatness that is the first 2/3rds of SUNSHINE is hard to describe. While the last 1/3rd is easy: 28 DAYS LATER.
Most Disappointing "Film"
SPIDER-MAN 3

Peter Parker turned Emo. Then danced down a street, gyrating at women. Then sang. This is not the Spidey I knew and loved from 1 & 2. Also, Venom, the best Spider-Man villian, gets less than 20 minutes screen time? 'Nuff said
Most Surprisingly Decent Film
SURF'S UP

I did not have high expectations going into this movie, but they changed as soon as I heard Jeff Bridges basically playing a penguin version of the Dude. I'm not quite sure why Pixar never tried to do an animated documentary before, but it works here quite well.
Worst Title
THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD

So, spoiler alert, apparently Jesse James gets himself assassinated by this Robert Ford character. And I thought trailers gave too much away of the plot.
