The 2007 translucentFILM Awards

Hot off the heals of the 2007 translucentMUSIC Awards, translucentFISH is proud to bring you the 2007 translucentFILM Awards. This years awards bring together the best in Comedy, Drama, and Comedy-Drama. Be sure to check out the list of films that were nominated but just missed the Top Ten Best list here. Following the number one film of 2007 are a number of specialty awards, and lists comparing my picks with that of RottenTomatoes.com and IMDb.com. Also, keep in mind that many films were released this year, and as such I did not get around to screening them all. Notable films not seen are THERE WILL BE BLOOD, MICHAEL CLAYTON, SWEENEY TODD, and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR. I will update the list, as necessary, once I catch these flicks. On to the Top Ten Best of 2007...

10.
ZODIAC
Dir. David Fincher

The one film I was sure I would love in 2007 actually came as a small dissapointment to me. Don't get me wrong, David Fincher is my favorite director, but this film seemed to focus on the way the investigators handled the investigation rather than the investigations themselves. Still it has the Fincher style, a fascinating murder mystery, and at close to 2 hours and 40 minutes, never gets boring.

9.
3:10 TO YUMA
Dir. James Mangold

What an odd film, 3:10 TO YUMA turned out to be. Just when you think your going to get handed the classic Western standby, lazy riding in a desert with Indian Killin', YUMA turns it on its heel and concludes with a huge finish. I only have one gripe about the ending, but something so miniscule can't make the ending get out of my head.

8.
KOCKED UP
Dir. Judd Apatow

For a film that came out last June, I know it will be good if I still remember lines from it in January. What is great about this movie is that it doesn't rely on the funny alone, but paints a plot that excellent. While some may be turned off due to the graphic content, one scene in particular, KNOCKED UP is still one of the funniest comedies ever made.
